Fun Special Needs Summer Activities in Waco

Fun Special Needs Summer Activities in Waco

Anyone who has a special needs child knows the struggles of finding activities that are suitable for their child. Just like every other child, our special needs children get bored during summer break and need activities to break the summer boredom. I have some great summer activities for you and your special needs child to have fun and not have to worry about accessibility.

Morgan’s Wonderland and Inspiration Island

5223 David Edwards
San Antonio, Tx
www.morganswonderland.com

Of coarse Morgan’s Wonderland is at the top of my list. I am sure most of you have heard about this amazing accessible park, but if you haven’t visited this park, it is a major must see! Morgan’s Wonderland has 25 attractions! Which includes a carousel, sensory village, Butterfly Playground, Off road ride, The Whirling Wonder and The Wonderland Express.

My daughter’s favorite was the Carousel, which enables kids and adults of different abilities to experience the fun of a merry go round. With special “chariots” for wheelchairs that actually move up and down.

She also enjoys the Whirling Wonder, which is a colorful ferris wheel that takes you high up for a great view of Morgan’s Wonderland and accommodates children and guest in wheelchairs. The Wonderland Express is one of my favorites which is a 1930’s style train depot with specially designed wheelchair accessible ramps so the whole family can enjoy a ride around the 8 acre lake.

There is also Inspiration Island which is a fully accessible water park with five splash pads and a Riverboat ride.

Harvey’s Hideaway

Rainbow Reef with warm water

Wheelchair accessible Boat Ride

There is also three types of waterproof wheelchairs you can use including an air powered waterproof chair. After enjoying the amusement park it was such a great feeling to get to beat the heat in a water park that my daughter could enjoy from her wheelchair!

Morgan’s Wonderland is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sundays 11am-4pm
Inspiration Island is open Monday-Thursday 11am-7pm and Friday and Saturdays 11am-8pm

The cost to enter Morgan’s Wonderland is free for your special needs child and 2 and under are free as well. For adults it is $12.00 and children are $11.00.

If you want to enjoy Morgan’s Wonderland and Inspiration Island the cost is still free for your special needs child and 2 and under. For Adults it is $27.00 and children are $21.00 for admission to both parks.

This is such an amazing place and I hope you check it out!

If you are wanting to stay in the Waco area I also have some great activities for you and your family.

Westview lanes is offering HOT bowling group for kids with special needs every Saturday at 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm. Parents or Caregivers stay with the child and cost is $2.00 for shoe rental and $2.00 a game.

Mayborn Museum

1300 S. University Park
Waco, Tx

Mayborn Museum brings together hands on discovery rooms, interactive natural science and cultural history all in one air conditioned location. My family and I love to visit the Mayborn, there is always so much to see and we are super excited to visit the new Titanic Exhibit!

Admission for the Mayborn is $8.00 for Adults and $6.00 for children.

Hewitt Splash Pad

9420 Chapel Rd.
Hewitt, Tx

The Hewitt splash is one of our favorite splash pads. There is plenty of room for my daughter to roam around in her wheelchair to explore the water spouts and we haven’t encountered a crowd of people as of now.

Hey Sugar

808 Austin Ave.
Waco, Tx

We love, love Hey Sugar! My daughter loves to pick out her sugary treats and weigh them, because she can go a little crazy picking out candy. And there is also a cute painted wall outside great for a family photo opp.

Last Drive In Picture Show

2912 S State Hwy 36
Gatesville, Tx

If you don’t mind taking a short trip to Gatesville, The Last Drive In Picture Show is a great outdoor theater. The cost is only $10.00 a car load and you can either sit in your vehicle or bring lawn chairs and enjoy the movie outside. I love the Drive In because I can bring the snacks and drinks my daughter eats and if she gets sleepy, which she always does, then she can nap in the car while we enjoy the movie.

I hope you and your family have a great summer break and have some great summer fun!
