Planning Your Trip to Waco: Dad’s Edition

0

Call me crazy but one of my favorite places to take my 3 kids to play in the mornings is Magnolia Market. We let our out of town friends have a run of the place on the weekends, but early in the week before the store opens you’ll often find me and at least a few of my kids sitting on the “lawn” blowing bubbles, running and dancing to the music playing throughout the property and stuffing our faces with a prized pig and a cranberry orange biscuit.  Many mornings have been spent at the Silos since they opened in late 2015 and our family has enjoyed meeting people from all over the world, many on a girls trip. Moms and daughters, old college roommates, bachelorette parties, and childhood friends flock to Waco to rest relax, shop and dine in our fun little town. Waco Moms Blog has covered the bases for those of you heading to Magnolia Market but I want to let you in on a little secret….Waco is a fun spot to bring the guys too! There are lots of things you can do together but we’ve compiled a list of things to send the guys to do while the ladies channel their inner Joanna Gaines.

Eat.

Waco has some great eats, several tried and true favorites and some tasty new spots as well.  For some mouth-watering Barbeque head over to Tony DeMaria’s, Guess Family BBQ, or Honky Tonk Kid aka. HTK BBQ (the last 2 are food trucks but both are currently building brick and mortar locations downtown!). Other great spots to grab lunch with the guys are Dubl-R Burgers, Vitek’s, George’s and Cajun Craft.

Drink.

Waco is home to an array of incredible breweries, wineries, coffee and juice spots and a world renowned distillery! Bare Arms Brewing –  has 6 flagship brews and an array of specialty seasonal brews, Bare arms is open Tues.-Sat. Balcones Distillery award winning whiskey, need I say more? Tasting room is open Wed-Sat.  and coming soon -a tasting room for Brotherwell Brewing  For those who prefer wine check out Valley Mills Vineyards and Kissing Tree Vineyards or swing by the Wine Shoppe for a wonderfully curated wine selection from all over the world. Dichotomy has the best of both worlds with hand crafted cocktails and killer espresso and for those who aren’t feeling an alcoholic beverage swing by  Luna Juice Bar or  Pinewood Roasters

Do.

The Silos – That’s right, guys. Swing by Chip’s corner, grab a cupcake, and head out to the lawn to play yard games while the ladies shop. When you’re done with the cupcake, be sure to work your way around the insanely delicious food trucks (lovingly referred to as the ‘Siloteria’ by us Wacoans).

Waco Pedal Tours – a fun way to see downtown Waco is by working together on the 14 seat bike!

Golf – Waco has several courses open to the public to work on that backswing. Cottonwood Creek, Twin Rivers and Lake Waco Golf Club.

Skeet Shooting –  call the Waco Skeet and Trap Club and set up a time to practice your marksmanship with a round of skeet shooting.

Take a stroll through one of Waco’s many museums and landmarks: Texas Ranger Museum, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the Waco Mammoth National Monument, or the Dr. Pepper Museum.

Waco Escape Room – there are few things more fun (and inevitably hilarious) than voluntarily locking yourself in a room with friends, a few clues to escape with, and a countdown clock working against you.

Cameron Park – spend a few hours or an entire day hiking, biking and discovering 416 acres of Waco’s beautiful urban park along the Brazos river.

Sporting Event – Take in a Baylor game, and beginning spring of 2019 you can check out a Waco BlueCats baseball game!

Lake Waco/ Brazos River – Bring your boat and enjoy a day of fishing, wakeboarding and skiing.

So grab a few friends and a sitter and head down to Waco!
