I have a confession to make: I have an entire kitchen cabinet dedicated to empty baby food jars. They are such a pleasant size, and we go through a lot as a result of two infant sons who are growing way too fast. Although I will probably never put all of them to use, I am going to do my best! These crafts took about 5 minutes each, if that, so they are perfect for busy mamas or a quick craft for the kids. Here is the first edition of Baby Food Jar Crafts; I hope you have as much fun making these as I did.
Halloween Glitter Slime Jars
These were fun for my husband and I to make, but I’m sure kids would love it even more. All you need to make the slime is a bottle of Elmer’s glitter glue, 1 1/4 tbsp contact solution, and 1/2 tbsp baking soda. Mix it all together and enjoy! To store and turn it into a fun Halloween decoration, just paint monster faces on baby food jars. Once my sons are past the “put everything in our mouths” stage (do they ever grow out of that?), I will definitely be making this again.
Spooky Snack HoldersJust a little bit of black paint and different sized baby food jars can liven up Halloween party snacks! I used goldfish in a jack-o-lantern jar and little marshmallows in a skeleton jar.
Jack-O-Lantern, Mummy & FrankensteinJack-O-Lantern: orange and black paint. You can make it as silly or as scary as you wish! Mummy: gauze, Modge Podge, and googly eyes. This was the quickest project by far: simply coat the jar in Modge Podge, wrap and layer the gauze, and stick some eyes on it. Frankenstein: googly eyes, green and black paint. That’s it!
Silly Lid MonstersAll you need is paint, googly eyes, and a little imagination! You could easily glue magnets on the back for fun fridge decor.
Jar-O-LanternsI love the shiny quality of this craft that comes from painting the inside instead of the jar rather than the outside. Just add a tea light candle and you have an adorable and easy decoration to line your front porch for trick-or-treaters!
So, what are you waiting for? Go grab those baby food jars you’ve been stockpiling somewhere and your paint brushes!
