As I write this, it’s a rainy Spring morning, and I’m dreaming of warm sunny days ahead. With our crazy Texas weather, it is hard to lay out your clothes the night before! Texas summers are more of a guarantee of hot, hot, hot. It’s not too early to start making plans of ways to beat the heat when summer arrives.

Here is a list of splash pads and watering holes all located in and around Waco:

Splash Pads

(Most are open from June-September.)

1.Cameron Park (2200 Cameron Park Drive)

2.Chapel Park (9420 Chapel Road)

3.Dewey Park (925 N. 9th Street)

4.Kendrick Park (4011 Bagby)

5.Mountainview (2325 Mountainview)

6.Oscar DuConge Park (1707 JJ Flewellen)

7.Brame Park (1000 Hogan Lane)

8.Little Indian Lagoon (305 East Adams Street, Riesel)

Pools

1.Waco Family YMCA  & –Doris Miller YMCA

Waco has two YMCAs.  Each has indoor and outdoor pools.  The outdoor pools also include  play parks.  Memberships are encouraged but day passes are also available.

2.Robinson Lions Pool

3.Playdium Pool

Take a short drive on I-35 to spend the day at this public pool in West.

Water Parks

1.Hawaiian Falls Water Park

Something for all ages.  Water slides, wave pool, lazy river, water playground for smaller kids, and a splash pad. Opening day is May 27.

2.BSR Cable Park

This one looks like it has some exciting (way too exciting for me!) options for older kiddos: Cable park, Royal Flush Slide, Lazy River and Cabins.

Lakes & Rivers

1.Lake Waco

Our city’s beautiful lake offers two parks with swimming beaches.

2.Brazos River & Bosque River

This one is a family favorite of ours.  Grab your kayaks or rent one (Waco Paddle Company or The Bear Mountain) and have a fun day of paddling, fishing, exploring, and splashing in the river.

The long summer days are lurking in the near future.  I’m ready!
